Home office comfort: work at the right temperature
I truly believe one of the most important elements for a true home office is a comfortable climate: let's talk about the right office temperature.
Although temperature is a very personal and sensitive matter, researchers have shown that most of us are productive in temperatures between 68 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 25 Celsius), with humidity between 40 and 50 percent.
I have overcome the temperature extremes of my sunroom office with some good
commercial carpeting with padding and a portable
heater. I recently bought an exhaust fan, and that really
helps to control the temperature as well as keep the dust off
my valuable equipment (less dusting to do, too).
If you have been tolerating a damp basement office, or find yourself sweating while working during the summer, take the appropriate steps to correct the situation, whether it means buying a small heater or a window air conditioner.
Sometimes we deal with a temperature distraction just by wearing a sweater rather then take care of the problem once and for all.
Working at home does not mean you must settle for less than you would expect in an outside office.
