Tools you need to make your home office desk more productive

So now you have a great home office desk, huh? Terrific! OK, time to get the tools. What do i mean when I say home office tools?

I mean, beside the desk, the stuff you are going to need in order to make your home office efficient and more productive. Keep reading and discover now what makes the difference between a nice home office and a first class home office.

Simply put, what does an efficient home office need to have?

  • A good chair. Seriously, folks. Never, ever underestimate the importance of a good home office chair.

For a perfect fit, look for an ergonomically designed office chair with an adjustable seat, armrest and back, as well as tilt tension. A traditional-style chair should have a seat height between 16 inches and 20 inches.

Read more for tips on how to choose the right chair for your home office desk.

  • Filing cabinet, bookcase or/and shelving. You need to be able to find stuff right away. Once again the keyword here is plan ahead.

Measure the space you have available, and list all the stuff you need to keep close to your home office desk: books, manuals, important documents, pieces of hardware.

I've found very useful to keep, next to my home office desk, a desk organizer. I suggest you to take a look at this terrific desk organizer, in order to get ideas. I use it, and it suits my needs perfectly.

  • The right lighting. Working with bad lighting, could lead to some serious health conditions. This is an important matter.

I've dedicated an entire page of this web site to the right lightning for your home office. It tells you some facts you should know about your eyes and how lighting affects them.

See this page on how to choose the right lighting for your home office desk.

  • Technological tools. According to what you need most, prioritize. I'm talking about:
    • computer
    • mouse, keyboard
    • printer
    • fax machine
    • photocopier
    • software

  • Office Supplies Take a walk at the closest Office Max, and get yourself some necessary home office supplies:
    • Calendar/Daily Planner
    • Accordion File (1-31)
    • Manila Files with the Months of the Year (Or you can make them up yourself - a lot less expensive)
    • Hanging Files
    • Manila Files
    • Boxes and Envelopes (9 x 12)
Well it's enough to put you on the right track. Good luck.

Tools you need for your home office deskRead this before you leave this page! Try to set up your home office so when you sit you face the doorway or room entrance. This will not always be possible if you have a corner desk.

Sitting with your back to the door means "negative energy". Believe it or not, I found this to be true. If you can't move your desk to face the room entrance, I suggest putting up a mirror so that you can see behind you.

Due to space limitations, I had to buy a corner desk for my home office and I couldn't arrange my desk facing the door. A first, I didn't realize how uncomfortable I was.

After I put up a rearview mirror on top of my computer, all of a sudden I felt more relaxed and focused. So, if you're in the same situation, this is another great home office tool you should consider getting.

Last but not least, once you've got all the tools, keep your home office organized. This, after all, will make the Go see my other article on some great resources for keeping your home office organized.
